power-ballads

Every now and then (lately) I get into the mood to hear the song “Dreams” by Van Halen (off the 5150 album), and so I queue it up on Tidal, and hear that awesome, incredibly unique chorus, and then usually go on a small power ballad kick on Tidal. nnI am not “feeling nostalgic” in any way (I prefer to *not* feel that way), but good music is good music, no matter what era or genre it is from, I will seek it out and listen to it. But I think the “era” of power ballads are mostly gone by now. Things such as “High Enough” by Damn Yankees, “Home Sweet Home” by Motley Crue, or even just straight ballads like “To Be With You” by Mr Big – they’re pretty incredible.nnJust wanted to mention that briefly. And also how much I love the collaboration between Weezer (I think the whole band) and Hayley Williams (of Paramore) singing their rendition of “The Rainbow Connection” from The Muppets. That is the only version of that song that goes “all the way” with the instrumentation at the end, as where the version with Gwen Stefani on vocals is sort of dry (but still good), as is the version with Debbie Harry (Blondie) from the 70s, which was a “collaboration” between Debbie Harry and Kermit The Frog, I think. And yes, it’s a cheese wiz, childish song, but it is pretty catchy.nnback soon
